Policemen Pop Post-It Note Perpetrator
Floridian faces felony rap for parking lot vigilantism
MAY 24--A parking lot vigilante incensed that a fellow motorist failed to yield to pedestrians outside a Florida supermarket exacted revenge by keying a penis-shaped design into the hood of the victim’s car, to which the accused also attached a Post-it note advising, “Don’t be a dick next time.”
Police allege that Natasha Myers, 22, caused more than $1200 in damages to Debra Streets’s Kia Sportage during the May 17 vandalism incident outside a Publix store in Wesley Chapel.
Myers told Pasco County Sheriff’s Office deputies that she was compelled to key the vehicle because Streets “had failed to yield to her in a parking lot and there was no cop around to give the victim a ticket,” according to a police report.
Myers, seen in the adjacent mug shot, copped to making a series of large scratch marks on the 2007 Kia’s passenger side. In describing some of the damage, a deputy noted, “There were also scratch marks in the shape of a penis on the hood of the vehicle.”
Streets discovered the vandalism when she returned to her car after exiting the Publix market. She also spotted a Post-it with handwriting affixed to her windshield. The note read:
“Hey, I keyed your car. You didn’t stop for pedestrians as is law. Since no cop to enforce a ticket, this should cover the cost of your fine. Have a good day. P.S. Don’t be a dick next time.”
Police investigation revealed that the unemployed Myers went to the customer service desk and asked for a Post-it note, which she wrote on before leaving the business. Streets, a payroll specialist at a construction company, told deputies that she “did not have any confrontations with anyone nor did she recall seeing any pedestrians walking.”
Charged with felony criminal mischief, Myers was booked Tuesday into the Pasco County jail (from which she was released Wednesday night after posting $5000 bail). (3 pages)
